DiaEuroCro Community Celebrates World Diabetes Day in Velika Gorica
On the occasion of World Diabetes Day, the DiaEuroCro community organised a special event in Velika Gorica, Croatia, bringing together people living with diabetes, athletes, families, healthcare partners, and sports enthusiasts for a day dedicated to sport, education, and community.
The event also honoured the memory of Dominik Išaretović, celebrating his passion for sport and his lasting contribution to the diabetes community.
Football brings the community together
The highlight of the day was a futsal tournament featuring members of the Croatian DiaEuro youth and senior national teams, alongside participants from the wider diabetes community. Teams were formed by mixing experienced players with younger athletes, creating a unique opportunity to strengthen friendships, encourage teamwork, and demonstrate that diabetes is never a barrier to participating in sport.
The event welcomed participants of all ages, reinforcing the idea that everyone living with diabetes can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle.
Education and innovation
Alongside the sporting activities, attendees had the opportunity to participate in an educational session delivered by Medilab ONE, where the latest diabetes technologies were presented.
Participants learned more about continuous glucose monitoring systems and insulin pump therapy, gaining practical knowledge about how modern technology can support athletes and active individuals living with diabetes.
Introducing DiaCro Sport
The event also marked the presentation of the newly established DiaCro Sport Association, created to promote physical activity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for people living with diabetes.
Visitors were introduced to the association’s vision, future activities, and opportunities to become members, further strengthening the Croatian diabetes and sports community.
Supporting the mission of DiaPS
Events such as the World Diabetes Day gathering in Velika Gorica reflect the core values of the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project: promoting inclusion, peer support, education, and active lifestyles for people living with diabetes.
By combining sport, education, and community engagement, the event demonstrated how local initiatives can inspire people of all ages to stay active, build confidence, and support one another.
