DiaPS Educational Materials Featured in the DIASPORTCAMP Project
The impact of the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project continues to grow beyond its original scope. As part of the DIASPORTCAMP project, educational materials developed by HAŠK Mladost within the DiaPS initiative have been presented and integrated into coach education activities focused on diabetes awareness and inclusion in sport.
DIASPORTCAMP is an Erasmus+ Sport project dedicated to improving the knowledge and preparedness of coaches and sports staff when working with young athletes living with diabetes. The project combines online learning with practical sports camp experiences, helping create safer and more inclusive sporting environments.
From DiaPS to coach education
Within the DIASPORTCAMP project, HAŠK Mladost was responsible for developing and contributing educational materials related to diabetes management in sport. These resources build upon the experience, knowledge, and practical recommendations developed through previous initiatives, including DiaPS.
The materials were designed to help coaches better understand diabetes, recognise potential challenges, and create supportive environments where children and young people with diabetes can safely participate in sport.
Available through e-learning
One of the key outcomes of the DIASPORTCAMP project is the creation of an online learning programme for coaches and sports staff. The educational content is available through the EMCA Studia platform, ensuring long-term access and continued use across Europe.
The e-learning programme provides practical guidance on topics such as:
- Understanding diabetes in sport settings
- Recognising and responding to hypo- and hyperglycaemia
- Supporting young athletes during training and competitions
- Creating inclusive and safe sports environments
Extending the impact of DiaPS
The inclusion of DiaPS-inspired educational content within DIASPORTCAMP demonstrates how project results can continue to create value beyond their original objectives. What began as a digital peer-support initiative has contributed to broader educational efforts aimed at improving awareness and inclusion in youth sport.
By sharing knowledge with coaches, educators, and sports organisations, these resources help ensure that more children and young people living with diabetes can participate in sport with confidence and appropriate support.
