DiaPS Featured at World Diabetes Day Event at the Faculty of Kinesiology
To mark World Diabetes Day, the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb hosted a special educational event dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and highlighting the importance of physical activity for people living with the condition.
Organised by Prof. Dr. Sc. Maja Cigrovski Berković in collaboration with the Faculty of Kinesiology and HAŠK Mladost, the event brought together students, healthcare professionals, coaches, athletes, and members of the diabetes community.

Promoting the importance of movement
The programme focused on the role of regular physical activity in diabetes management and the many benefits that sport can bring to children, young people, and adults living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Participants discussed the challenges people with diabetes may face in sport, while also highlighting the importance of education, understanding, and supportive environments that enable everyone to participate safely and confidently.
Introducing the DiaPS project
As part of the event, attendees were introduced to the DiaPS – Diabetes and Sport Peer Support project and its mission to improve the lives of people living with diabetes through education, digital innovation, and peer support.
The presentation showcased the DiaPS platform and mobile application, explaining how the project provides reliable information, practical resources, and a community where users can share experiences and learn from one another.
Students and participants had the opportunity to learn more about the project’s objectives and the role digital tools can play in supporting people living with diabetes in sport and everyday life.
Strengthening collaboration between sport and healthcare
World Diabetes Day provided an excellent opportunity to connect the academic community, healthcare professionals, sports organisations, and people living with diabetes around a shared goal—creating a more inclusive environment where diabetes is never a barrier to physical activity.
The event also reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in improving diabetes awareness and encouraging active lifestyles from an early age.
By participating in educational initiatives such as this, the DiaPS project continues to raise awareness, build partnerships, and promote the message that sport and diabetes can go hand in hand with the right knowledge, support, and community.
